Stoke Newington School & Sixth Form Project

Uninvited Guests will run a 10 day theatre workshop and video production project with a group of 15 sixth form students from Stoke Newington school. The project will take place in October 2009 at the school, culminating in a performance by the students to an invited audience. These young people will also help shape a theatre workshop resource film that will then be edited into a professional quality film and be widely available as an education resource.

The workshops will focus on the devising processes of Uninvited Guests, which take as their starting point two of our recent shows, Schlock and It Is Like It Ought To Be. They will act as a springboard for the students to devise their own performance.

We live in a media saturated society. Can we kiss someone without thinking of a scene from a love film? Can we hear the beeps of a heart monitor without thinking of endless scenes from ER? Are we living our lives through the veil of the screen? What is real and what is not anymore? Should we be searching for something more real, something better? A utopia where we can take refuge, a rural idyll amongst the city’s hubbub where anything is possible… Describe the world you live in. What have you been witness to?
What would you change? What would your utopia be like?
